Saying that the audio will run at 22V and the rest of the car at 12V is wrong. The voltage that the alt is running at is the voltage that the entire car's electronics will see...

Maybe 10 years ago they were...nowadays 99% use ported or 6th order BP boxes for spl...

I'm not saying there aren't some loud sealed cars, but 99%+ of the time a properly designed ported or BP box will trump a sealed box with ease...

exactly.. unless you get a second alternator thats dedicated specifically for the audio in the vehicle...

I ran ZX2500's w/ 21ish from the alty, 14ish when burped for about 2700w each @ 1ohm nominal. I was getting about 2400w each @ a 14.5v charge.... so it gained me about 900w across the board.

Of course the rest of the electrical system had to be isolated and 12v batteries can't take that for more than a few minutes.

No one mentioned a second alternator. The dumbass at the audio shop said he can add an external regulator to get that kind of voltage...that means he'd be running the original alt, or a single aftermarket alt, not a completely different alt.
