is cb radio dead

I rock one of these on my rear bumper.

It cuts down tree branches on faster roads and really does damage to the roof tops of covered gas stations. Watch out if you wheel though. Got caught in a tree once and whipped back taking out my windshield with it. Scared the shit out of me. Thought someone was shooting at us.

thats a bad *** antenna...wish i woulda got it, i went with the 6 foot one

Yup, I've got a 102" whip off the rear quarterpanel of the van, tops out a little under 13' in total. You really learn where all the low branches are where you drive //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Radio is an Icom IC-706MKIIG that I "modified" (really, just cutting an SMD diode) to open up the transmitter to anywhere it tunes...100W SSB, 25W AM. I don't have a need for more power than that.

This thread reminds me, I have to get up on the roof and fix one of the VHF/UHF antennas, I whacked a tree with it in a parking lot and I need to tighten it back in...have to use a ladder to get up there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

There's a guy who builds these locally to me, excellent quality antennas, I'd really like one to be able to get on 40 meters and the lower bands (the 102" whip just is too short with a base-mounted tuner, radiation resistance just goes apeshit down there)...about $700 though the way I'd want it with automatic control from the radio //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I got a radio transmitter in my car, its only a scanner, but I listen to cops chit chatin, and the air-force base sometimes. Hospital helicopter chatter gets fun too.

I have a Cobra 29 in my truck with 2 3' Firestik II's. Its not the greatest setup but it works good for me. Nice to here where the cops are as well as traffic and such, also can hear some pretty funny stories. Also some of my buddies have them in their trucks, much easier to use a CB than text/call when driving around.

Mine is mounted to the rear bumper above teh spare 35" tire. About elbow height. I have no idea how far it sticks up. Almost 20 feet or so? Makes my Jeep look like a Remote Control car. lawl

hey any one know how close you can mount a cb antenna to a radio antenna before you start getting interference between the 2 ? im thinking about getting a any where from a 32 - 40 inch antenna and mounting it on the opposite side of the radio antenna on the back of the car about 4 maybe 5 ft apart from another . i only wish that they made a power telescoping antenna for cb radios

You'll be way fine at that distance. Hell, my CB and radio are right next to heach other and I don't get any interfearance. But then again, I'm not trying to talk to aliens. I jsut communicate with the rest of the gang out wheeling in the same spot I am.
