is a watt just a watt?

Im just saying that 1000 watts coming from a JL 1000/1 is gonna be stronger and smother than 1000 coming from a JBL, anyone want to argue that?
This is one of the most ignorant statements I've heard in a long time - the sentence itself is contradictory.

A watt is a watt. A watt is not beer, where one is different from another. A watt is a unit of measurement.

Using this guy's logic, a JL amp that is 12" long is gonna be bigger than a JBL amp that is also 12" long. Or if both amp weigh 10 lbs, the JL will be "more balanced" and "better" 10 lbs. It doesn't make sense.

90 degrees is 90 degrees. A liter is a liter. A volt is a volt, and a WATT IS A WATT. There is NO SUCH THING as a *good* watt or a *bad* watt. It is a physical measurement, not a subjective opinion.

This is what happens when people believe what they want to believe, and refuse to LEARN the TRUTH.

ummm there is such thing as a good watt and a bad watt when you bring in all the other factors. it's just not really called that it would be a clean watt or a distorted watt.

HI this is doug, and none of you understood what I was saying at all when I made that statement about a watt is a watt being a naive comment. All I was saying is that there is more to an amp than just the amount of watts that it puts out, thats it. I know that a watt is a standard measurement and a watt coming from one place is the same as a watt from another. But the current coming from a JL is stronger and smoother then that coming from a JBL, I dont know why you guys are getting so offended about this. This whole thread is pointless to try and prove me wrong when I knew what you were saying all along you just didnt understand my words. Would anyone in here rather have a JBL 1200.1 over a JL 1000/1 with price aside? I dont think so, Im jsut saying that an amp cannot be looked at just by the amount of watts it puts out...

no i wouldn't but, for the price you paid for you jl 1000/1 i can get a zapco c2k 9.0 and blow your jl out of the water in every possible aspect. you simply stated a watt is a watt is nieve. 1kw is 1kw simple as that no matter if it's jl or jbl simple as that. admit you were wrong and be done with it.

NO I WASNT THATS NOT WHAT I MEANT YOU ARE ALL PISSING ME OFF SO ****ING BAD. when your comparing two amps you cant jsut be like, well, a watt is a watt. Some amps are better than others, and saying oh well a watt is a watt is a dumb *** statement. So much more goes into an amp then just the amount of watts it puts out, thats what I meant by saying a watt is a watt as being a naive statement. There is a difference between transition, distortion, and consistancy of a JL and a JBL, and thats that.

all i have to say is simply that the distortion between the 2 is inaudible, the consistancy yes Jl has that but for 2-3times the price nope. and transition man that is so inaudible and undetectable. my biggest thing i see you supporting jl is b/c you own a jl 13w7 and jl 1000/1 that you prolly bought from a local dealer and paid over a grand.

The problem is Doug is saying that a JL amp puts out stronger and smoother sound than a JBL. He doesn't realize it makes no sense. His statement still relies on the theory of an amp having more "quality" watts than another. He's just saying it another way and not realizing it. Its like saying that Consumers Energy gives me better lighting in my house than Energy America. Power is power. The difference is MAYBE Consumers has less problems with their equipment or something of that nature, thus enhancing their reliability thus making them the better option. That's really the issue here. The fundemental flaw is believing an amp is more important than it really is, or can do things that it can't. Music can only sound the way it sounds, it can't sound "better" than the original recording. Anything that is changed from the original recording is considered distortion, even if you prefer the way it sounds. If it is recorded like crap, than a "perfect" stereo will reproduce it to sound just like crap.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif So you can only judge an amp by what it DOESN'T do to the music, it technically can't DO anything.

We all know of people that believe in magical wires. I remember going to my uncles house and he was so happy his new cables for his home stereo had come in. They were $2,500 used. All they did was went from the source unit to the amp and he swore out they made a difference in the sound (they were not a different size than his previous cables, just a different brand). He has a $60,000 stereo, with of course amps that have magical watts, oops, I mean STRONGER and SMOOTHER watts.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Last I checked, he was EXTREMELY happy with his setup and beating his friends 15" L7 and 15" XXX in SQ and SPL. Sounds like he spent his money wisely to me. Better to spend $1,500 on a setup you are in love with than $600 on one your disappointed in.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i know i've never been beaten in SPL with my L7 15" that i had. then again i was doing 149 with 750 watts going to it in a 2.5cuft box. anyway that's still a ton of $$ and i know i had the option for a 13w7 and some cash trade a while back but i just do not want jl b/c of the price tag. even cost is insanely expensive.
