Is 1/0 Kolossus Power Wire Overkill?

I am installing a ARC Foose 4150 (80w RMS x 4) and 600.1 (620w RMS x 1). My cable and wire order from Knukonceptz arrived yesterday, and the 1/0 cable size caught me by surprise. According to the Knu site, their 1/0 actually measures 2/0, and their 4 actually measures 3 gauge. The overall run will be less than twenty feet and splitting to two 4 gauge to the individual amps.

Would a 4 gauge run have been sufficient for this application, considering that the 4 gauge is actually 3 gauge? I am not looking forward to trying to run this garden hose of a cable through my interior!

BTW, i have installed several small systems in previous vehicles that I have owned, but this is my first venture into a higher output system. The largest power run I have done until now was a true 8 gauge. I am still blown away by the size of the 1/0. the 4 guage would have been enough for the moment. but i would go ahead and keep the 1/0 for future references. i got the 4 guage at first for my hifonics 1500d and had to go to 0 guage with my 2500d.

With 0/1 guage install, its do it once and never uprgrade again. Just install new amps all you need to do is put 4 guage to distribution block(easiest install amp ever)-- no running wire all over again, like taking seat, carpet and rest junk out.

With 0/1 guage wiring and distribution block, its right there at your fingertips--15 minute install--tuning more time.

you'll thank yourself later when you add another amp

Thanks for the replies. Just the WOW factor of the wire size and the thought of getting it through the firewall, under door sill routing, etc.

Yeah I originally ran 4 gauge and then wished I had just manned up and ran the 0 gauge when I got my 2500d and had to tear everything out again and basically start the install from scrathc. So your better off using it even if you dont need it now, cuz you just might later on down the road.

if the question even came to mind whether you should do a smaller guage now, or just do 1/0--do the 1/0 because someday i bet anything you will need it for your bigger system (everyone does it).

Run The "Garden Hose Now"....Believe Me you won't reget it.If you decide to do it later...THAN..You will regret it.Take your time/Have Patience(People go wrong here) with the Cable/Secure it well with some heavy duty cable ties where it allows.Make "Good Connections".All the Best.
