introducing myself, and my Matrix

hey guys and gals, new to the forum here...but not too new to car audio. just bought a used vehicle that had a system in it two weeks ago, and heres the rundown on it:

2003 Toyota Matrix XRS

aero package (front bumper, rear bumper, side skirts)

black exterior

black/gray/chrome interior

carbon fiber invader style hood

chrome windshield sprayer nozzles w/ blue led's

TRD cold air intake

Sportline lowering springs

16x7 silver wheels from an MR2

TRD Exhaust

purple neons under dash and seats

Whistler radar detector

tint all around (unsure what percentage, but its dark enough)

2 12W6v2's in a sealed inclosure

MA Audio 1800 watt amp flush mounted into the floor

Panasonic head unit(older model)

factory speakers

ill put some pics up in the next few days

first things first, i dont think the previous owner could color coordinate...the dash has all red lighting, the headunit and amp have blue LED's, and then purple neons???? i hate the ricer sprayer nozzles, but you cant get OEM replacement ones short of going to the dealer, so i just ripped out the wiring for the LED's, and left the chrome ones on there since they match the exterior of the car. and, im not too sure if i want to put red neons in place of the ones that are in there...or just discard the neons all together.

planned car audio upgrades:

the headunit is definately going, ive already been pricing the eclipse CD8455's on ebay as a replacement, this will be my first eclipse headunit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif i hope i love it...and the chrome and black face plate will blend in well with the rest of the interior.

JL audio XR650 components are going into the front stage, with a 350/2 amp...and the MA Audio amp is going out the window to make room for a 1000/1 to power the W6's.

before all that is done im going to go ahead and build a ported enclosure for the subs...since that will be the cheapest upgrade, and hopefully the best bang for the buck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

ive already ordered some 17" Motegi RT5's with Kumho rubbers, which should be here on tuesday. hopefully the 8455 will be in the dash within the next month

sorry for the long post, just wanted to get some of my info out there!

well, heres the pics i took at the car lot to tide you over until i take some more. obviously one of the rear seats is down, and you can see the scratch that runs across the top of the rear seats...any idea how to fix that, shy of going to the dealer/junkyard and getting a replacement?

thanks for the quick welcome guys...but heres something to ponder over, which has the greater potential for SPL: two 12W6v2's on a 1000/1, or a single 12W7 on the same amplifier?

both being in a ported enclosure built to manufactures specs, of course.

reason i ask is that i can get a used 12w7 for a decent price, and i could sell the two w6's and make a profit

or i could just eat the profit and make a box with 3 seperate chambers, one 12w7 surrounded by 2 12w6's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

hmm...that might be interesting...

if i had the room, anyone see anything wrong with squeezing the 3 subs in there? dont know if there would be any sound issues with having 2 adequate subs, and one monster thrown in the middle of it all

I would stick with the W6v2s sealed, two of those in an open hatchback like the Matrix off a 1000/1 should be beautiful. I have a friend who has a Matrix who used to have a pair of sealed W0s powered by an oldschool rockford amp, and it pounded like no tomorrow because of that car. So i don't know how much bass you need, but two sealed W6v2s is more than enough output for me.
