intermittent bass

Hi all. Hoping you can help. I'm running a 760-watt Pioneer GM-5100T amp and two Pioneer Premier TS-A6961R 12 inch subwoofers. The deck is also a Pioneer Premier, although I'm not sure of the model. The subs are fairly new; about six months old, but I have had the deck and the amp for a while longer. Anyway, yesterday my bass began cutting out. It will go away, leaving me with blaring vocals, and then return a few moments later only to disappear again. Obviously, this is quite the annoyance. I already checked all the external connections, so that isn't it. Does anyone have any ideas what it might be? I'm more familiar with wiring than with actual compnents.

Thanks!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I checked. Full Power to the amp, but not to the subs. At least the amp light stays on even when the subs are out.

I have a small 400w Crunch amp which I am currently using to power a pair of 6X9s..I'll hook that up and see if it makes any difference. Having to replace my amp wouldn't be the end of the world. It's pretty old considering I bought it in 2005.

2005 is by no means ancient. With it coming on and off, i would suggest what the others said, look for any bad wiring. Maybe a loose or getting loose ground cable.

Okay here's the dealio now. I isolated the problem; a blown input on the amp. I hooked up a new amp and I can't get it to bump anywhere near what the old one did. The new amp is a Pioneer GM-6300F, whereas the old one was a GM-5100T. This new is a four channel amp with max power 120X4; 300X2. The old amp had a max power output of 250X2. My understanding is that the new one would bump harder but I am barely getting any movement in the subs. I played with the gain but nothing changed. I really want to have some sound while I try to repair this old amp, but as of right now my bass is nonexistent. Any clues?
