installing the viper

If you have a little black pellet in your key, you have the VATS system. The installation manual for the 791 will explain how to bypass it, but you'll need a relay and a resistor of the same value as the one in your key. A shop that installs remote starts may be able to provide you with a resistor pack made for VATS bypass; otherwise you can measure your key's resistor then go to Radio Shack. You'll need another relay if you want to hook up your power trunk release.

Looks fine if you want to disable your VATS system altogether. The viper manual will tell you how to bypass VATS for the remote start, but keep it working with the key. One downside to completely disabling the VATS setup is that if you don't get the resistance quite right, or if the resistor connections corrode or come loose, you won't be able to start the car with the key OR the remote start. If you use a relay and follow Viper's directions, then a resistance problem will disable the remote start but you'll still be able to start the car with the key.
