x2 Red wire goes to POS + and Black wire to NEG -

Its possible he is hooking up a relay, so in the case one side of the relay gets power from the battery and the other side gets hooked up to your current headlight connections which will trip the relay.

It should have a relay. Any half way decent set of aftermarket headlights should come with the correct connector to connect them directly to your headlights and have a relay already installed. That way, the headlights will work correctly with your stock wiring.

If he is just rigging up a set of headlights to work, then he has more wiring issues that he will need help with than just where to hook up the power wire.
