Installing HIDs

Ordered myself a pair of GP Thunder HIDs that are supposed to come in tomorrow. I spoke to the guys today at the shop about installing HIDs and they told me to go ahead and do it myself. Ive never installed HIDs before. I usually do installs related to audio and my main thing, tints. They told me its pretty simple that it should take me about 30mins to install. That I just have to disconnect my stock bulbs (obviously) and connect the HIDS to the ballast, insert the bulbs where the old ones were and then from the ballast connect it to my wire harness. Is it this simple? Are there certain things I should be aware of? Tips, advice, suggestions are welcomed...

you should do a retrofit, thats the only way to go true HID. i did a TSX retrofit on my 01 celica and its one of the best mods i've ever done, the TSX projectors are hella bright.

if you get a plug and play unit, say goodbye to your stock wiring system after awhile. HID may use less power (~35w) compared to halogen's 55w, but to ignite the HID, the ballast will try to pull over 100w during start-up. Do that a lot and your wiring harness may fry.

If you insist on getting a plug and play unit, make yourself a wiring harness so that the power if fed off directly from the battery instead of the stock harness.

Thats what I did. They told me I will be fine for a while but that I should change my wiring harness eventually.

my friends civics engine bay started on fire because he used some cheap plug and play kit with out a relay..

i have done a few retrofits and will never go about it without a relay.

I agree Plug and Play is a waste of money, save a couple more bucks and do a retro, I did the samething i got me a pair of plug and play (this one hasnt been banned yet) and after talking to a bunch of guys on HIDPLANET.COM i retroed my lights with TSX's.
