Installing Alpine 9835...

...into a 95 Corolla. I watched my man put in my old HU (Alpine 9851), and I removed it myself, but that's the extent of my installation experience. I'm not trying to take it to a shop because I want to learn.

I already got the amp kit for the 9835, now what? Pics welcome!

The harness might be similar or even exactly the same, in which case it would be plug and play. If not, just consult the manual and swap all the wires over to the new harness.

x2 on Hartman's post. It is highly likely that the wiring harness for the 9851 and the 9835 are the exact same. If so it will be a simple matter of pull out the old deck and slide the new one in after swapping over the appropriate connections - akin to when I went from my now for sale KDC-X679 to the XXV-01D I'm currently using. (My car is essentially the same as a Corolla) I pulled out the old one, disconnected the 3 sets of RCAs, the antenna lead, and the wiring harness. Reconnected all those cables to the appropriate spots on the new deck and slid it in the dash (the two decks even use the same cage - couldn't have been any simpler!)

yeah my issues are mostly with the whole amp kit part. Anyone who's installed it please respond. Like I said, I can do the "regular" install, it's the amp kit that's the problen. I don't know what part of the kit to use and where and how...

All you do is run the amp kit power wire directly from the battery (fuse) to the constant (yellow) wire on the back of the HU. Use the ground wire from the amp kit to ground the HU (black wire) to a spot of BARE METAL. Then the left overs of the amp kit you won't need...the RCA's and Blue remote turn-on will only be needed if you have an amplifier for your speakers and such.

And where does the fuse and inline fuse holder go in all that?

For anyone that's installed a 9835, there are settings on the back for a 3 way or 2 way system. Now, there's another switch to switch between an system with an EQ or a normal one. But for the 3 way or 2way, I don't see any switch to change it, just the space with the label (all that would only make sense to someone that's seen the underside of the 9835 before).

There's a switch there, you need a small flathead screwdriver (I used a small jeweler's one) to flip the little switch in there. It's not that noticeable.

Remember that the front preout becomes the HF preout and the rears become the mids when you switch to 3way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Aight, I got that whole switch thing taken care of. Now my only problem is finding somewhere to route the wires through to the battery. If anyone has done any sort of amp install on a corolla and has some pictures, holla at me.
