Installing a second battery....

so on my week of vacation coming up I am going to finish my install. trim out my trunk to get it looking nice, install my HO alternator (finally), finish some more dynamating, and some other random stuff.

but I want to add a second battery, like a yellow top in addition to my other battery. After I install the new HO alt how would I go about adding the second battery, say in the trunk.... just ground it on a good spot I know. But as far as the pos+ just run a second one off the alt or off the other battery???

You connect Battery 1 to Battery 2, proper fusing would require two inline fuses one at each battery to keep power out of the cabin in case of an accident. My advice, use two or zero fuses (one is pointless since power is on at both sides)

I'm glad you mentioned this. I just realised i dutifully fused my power wire going from my front battery to the rear, a foot from the battery...but never fused it in the trunk where the other battery is.

Anyone know if they sell terminal covers for those side-posts on the optima's?

basically just run a power wire from the battery positive under the hood to the second battery, with fuses at each and ground the battery like you would an amp. also some people like to use dual battery isolators
