Installing 7" OverHead Audiovox DVD Player

Hello,

I have recently bought a Audiovox VOD715 player and tried to hook it up by myself. I wired the unit to the dome light but unfortunaltely, I have wired it wrong so the unit only turns on when the door is open //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

Since I know nothing about wiring, I would like to ask few silly questions //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

1) Do I have to install the device with the - terminal of the battery taken off? I just hooked it up without turning the battery off as I thought it wouldn't do any harm to the player.

2) When the wires are connected in a wrong way, eg + terminal to +, would it damage the player? Or would it simply not power up?

These two questions were the ones that I wanted to be clear about //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Back to the main point,,

There was three wires which came with the player. Black, Red, and Yellow.

I believe Black is earth red is ACC+ and yellow is dome light.

What I did was that when I took the dome light off the roof, I found two wires which initially connected to dome light.

So using those two wires, I have hooked up earth wire with one of the wire from the roof and joined red and yellow wires together and hooked it up to another wire. (As there was only two wires on the roof)

And at the end, after screwing whole player on the roof, I discovered it only powers on when the door is open //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

So my question is,, do I have to get a ACC+ wire from the driver's side?

If so, how can I get the wire all the way up?

And how can I locate ACC+ wire from the driver side?

Your help will be really appreciated. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blush.gif.99bc659ee2012b7d826165e26fb5eebe.gif

it should've came with stickers on the wire labeled ACC... 12V or Memory... and GND... i think red would go 2 an ACC...yellow would be 12v constant... and ground the black...

and 2 the other poster... depends onthe vehicle how i mount them... if it's not a heavy unit and there's no beam available i put a piece of abs on the other side of the headliner and screw into that abs... usually there is a beam and i mount a piece of abs to the beam and screw into the abs... or i just screw directly into the beam

ground the black hook up red to a 12volt constant and hook up the yellow to ur remote turn on. would be the easiest
When you say ground, do you mean put the black wire to metal part of the car?

If so, there are two wires from the dome light that I can connect with the remaining wires. I don't know what remote turn on is,, I have red and yellow remaining,,, do I connect remaining wires to each dome light wires?

////// DVD Player is screwed on the roof lining //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

just run 3 wires from the dvd unit... through the headliner... and down the side of the pillar... find a 12v constant and a 12v switched wire... go 2 ur radio... or the fusebox... fuse the wire... dont' go 2 domelight... some cars have a - switched wire instead of a + switched wire... and the other is a constant... and as u already know... it only comes on with the door open.. so why would you go back 2 that same wire?

Thanks for the reply.

I'm a total dummy in wiring so still got some questions -

Isn't grounding just connecting the black wire to the metal part of the car? In that case I only need to run 2 wires to the fuse box.

And how can I locate 12v constant wire and ACC+ wire in the fuse box?

Sorry for keep asking questions //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And two wires (from dome light) that are on the roof, will I be able to use one of those wires to hook my yellow wire? Which will be a lightning for the inbulit dome light of a dvd player I guess.. In that case, I only need to run red wire down to A pillar and hook it up to ACC+.

BTW, I don't know how to locate ACC+ wire from the fuse box so could you explain how I could locate it?

Thanks alot.

AND~~ Do I NEED to disconnect battery when doing this installation?

If wired incorrectly, would it blow the whole thing up ? (Just a bit concerned as I don't know much of it)

I am curious about how units like these mount to the ceiling. Magnets? Welding? I assume you don't screw through your roof.
you drop the head liner. and swrew a board a little bigger than the unit, to the cross beams in the ceiling, then the unit screws in to the wood.

must be something on newer cars. The only car I have ever seen without a headliner was myy 66 mustang. It was just flat up top.
most cars have beams going across the roof. a 66 stang yeah is probably a little diff. not every car can take a flip down, and head rest monitors come in to play.
