Installing 3-way comps with minimal fabrication?

Hey....I have a 2001 suburban and I just ordered slc 365's (kick). Since my glassing skills are non-existant, I need another solution for mounting these bad boys. IIRC, the doors already have a 5" or 6" driver plus a tweeter.

Should I put the 6.5" and the 4" in those locations and the put the tweeters elsewhere (maybe the a-pillars or something)?

Or...should I put the 6.5" and the tweeter in the door, and figure out something else for the 4" (like maybe a q-logic kick panel, and only use it for the 4")?

Or... if the q-logic kick panel is any good, how about putting the 6.5" and the tweeter in there, and maybe the 4" in the door?

It's probably simple to most, but I'm noobish! I want the best sound I can get without fiberglassing anything. Feel me? Any help will be cool. Pics would be nice. -Thx.

Just a few post down.. If you have the same style grille's like this one had you could do it no problem..

How Logn till you do the install?

I could get pix of a Focal install we did in a suburban 4,6, In Doors Tweets in A-Pills

It'll be a week or two...the speakers aren't even here yet. Yeah, those pics would be great. How do the focals sound?

We Did a Avalanch & Burbin for the same guy

The Avi Has Ployglass V1's 6.5"

O/S PPi Amps & 30Band EQ

Focal K2P11" Sub

It sounds awsome..

Very Detailed.. The Sound Stage is around Dash High

The Mids & Highs have no gaps.. blends very nice..

In The Burbin

We Got 3Way K2P's

On The Same O/S PPi Amps & Dual 30Band EQ's

(3) Focal Polyglass 13" Subs

This one is His Basser.. But sounds OMG So Good..

Just Like The Other Mids/Midbass In The Doors Tweets in the A-Piller

Very Nice..

I would try to squeez the Tweet in the door if you had the space & if you can ame the tweeter..

Peace I will get pix ASAP

Don't put the 4's or tweeters in the door, IMO

Best thing would be 4's & tweets in kicks and midbass in door.

How much processing do you have?

Because it would take a lot of processing to get it to sound right with everything door-mounted, or even with the midbass & midrange door mounted. And even if you had the processing to pull it off, you would likely be sacraficing stage width, at minimum.

Overall unless you were going fully active, I think 4s & tweets in kicks w/ midbass in doors is your best option.

Well...I have pretty much no processing. Just a pioneer 980bt hu. The amp is an autotek mm75.4 (supposedly 250 x 2, but we'll see). I need a "set it and forget it" solution - or as close to it as possible, lol! So do you think the q-logic kick panels would work? I'd hate to pay a local "custom" shop a few hundred bucks for them and it still not be right, ya know?

Q-logics should work well for your situation. I would stick the 4's and tweets down in the kicks and midbass in the doors. The Q-logics are pretty thin, so you'll have to spend some time solidifying them with modeling clay/sound deadening and probably stuff them with polyfill or foam would be a good idea aswell to soak up the rearwave. Their aiming might not be perfect, but should be adequate and better than trying to shove them in the doors with "minimal hassle".

Thank you for your help. I'm gonna do exactly that. Unless anybody else feels like this may not be ideal. Anybody?

i did what squeke just suggested. i bought q logics, reinforced them with sounddeadening on the sides, added polyfil to help with it not being a pod. installed 4" and tweets in kicks and woofs in my door properly deadened

sounds great
