Installer-dealer pushing JL'S

I am having a Kenwood ddx or a Pioneer avh p4000 installed in my 2008 Ford f150supercrew cab. I am not looking for high end gear and am trying to stay under 1k total. Just want some better sound than the crappy stock unit. No subwoofer just yet. 4 speakers. 2 front-2 back. The installer is pushing the JL TR570 CXI speakers for $150 a pair.

Any other suggestions in that price range? Or are the JL'S fine. Gramps could use some help!

Thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

That is avaerage markup. You may be better off getting them from the link above and saving $130ish and just pay them to install them if you want to go that way.

Is $150 your maximum budget? If you could go to $200 I could suggest a whole new world of SQ to you. I warn you , you may get addicted though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

LMAO

$150 bucks for those things?

I don't know much about good co-ax, but I'm sure someone here can show you some nicer, cheaper ones.

JL Audio's merchandise is good. But the cost vs. quality ratio is all messed up.

But I'd still give my neighbor's kid up for a JL 1000/1

you dont have to go with 5x7"s most speakers come with adapters so you can use them. look at the morel tempo 6 and maybe an alpine pdx150.4. you could get all that for under 1k. however you dont REALLY need to change the rear speakers. so just get one set of the morels and a pdx150.2 and youll be well under that 1k mark.

those are great speakers and a great amp.

Take a look at amping a set of Rainbow SLC NG's to the tune of 150-175watts a side. If you insist on getting rears, you can pick up a set of SL which are the SLC's but coax for the rears.

I have gone w/o rears and dumped my extra budget into a "better" more capable front stage and have been so satisfied I won't go back. So, you can save the money on the rears and a big four channel and reinvest the same money into better comps and a more capable 2 channel.

It sounds like you are looking to get great sound, not just be loud. If I misinterpreted that you can disregard my post. If not, this is just one suggestion of many that can put you on a path to a more pleasurable and fulfilling listening experience. This is not the only set I would recommend, but it is in the $200 range. Also, if you do decide to go this route, there is only one guy I prefer to get my higher end stuff from. 6spdcoupe. I have met him personally, yes I drove from Florida to NJ, and he is a stand up guy. You can look here for his feedback, it is stellar.

I could keep going, but I want to make sure this is the direction you want to go before I do that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks for all the replies fellas! Gramps appreciates it.

I can go to $200 a pair on speakers but would rather stay around a total of $300 for the 2 pair. Alternate suggestions will be looked at.

What shop are you going to in Jax?
Rolling sound at the avenues. Quoted the pioneer avh p4000 for $540 installed plus purchase of JL speakers for $300 for the 2 pair

Do the JL TR speakers **** because they are on the low end of the spectrum or is the sound quality really that bad? If so for $150 a pair what would be better?

No time to build myself. Want to go with local installer and equipment for convienence and other possible issues.

Thanks!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Yea filter1 you are on the right track. At my age do not need the thumping base but just want some better quality sound with some low end. I listen to all kinds of music from metal to classical to my present favorite of alternative. I would like to stick to getting front and back speakers so they are all the same though. Thanks for the reply.
