A few weeks ago, the stock radio on my 1992 Silverado went wonkers... the best way to say it is this: it is stuck, kinda. The time won't change, and I can't change any setting, but it responds to pushing buttons. So, with the radio "on," I can see the radio station and the volume, but I can't change the volume. I can hit the "bal" button, and the balance info will show up, but I can't change it. And, on top of all of this, there is no audio.

So, my first question is: is there any easy way to fix this? I have unplugged the battery, and that reset the radio (time and station), but it is still stuck.

Second question is: I wouldn't mind spending a few hundred bucks on a new radio (if the old one won't work). All I "require" is an AM/FM radio and a "line in" on the front of the head unit. I went to a Car Toys in town and they said:

$100 for unit (free basic installation)

$45 special installation (for my truck, they have to move things around)

$30 for special parts, wires, mounting rig, whatnot,

so for under $200 I could get a new radio installed by a "pro."

Now, speaking to people that know more than me in this field (which is nothing), is this a good price? Should I shop around, or is that safe?

Thanks for all of the help!

Matthew
