Instaling amp off speaker level inputs?

If I run the amp off the rear speaker wires, I still use those same wires to run the rear spaekers? I just run a splice and now the rear wires send a signal to both the amp and rear speakers? Will this burn up the head unit sooner than normal? I wanna run a sub with the amp I'm speaking of.

No, if you run an amp off of the headunit power you cannot also run it to the speakers. well you could and I have seen it done but it would prolly fry the HU sooner or later and sound like garbage from the get go.

Get a new HU (with sub out) and then worry about a sub amp.

Thanks for the info. I've never used the high level inputs before only the rca's. I was hoping to use the factory head unit. I don't need a competion type system, but have had my car busted into for my stereo. Was thinking if I used a lame factory unit nobody would mess with my stuff. I've even gone the cheap aftermarket radio and had that stolen before?
