Input Voltage

The input voltage for my amp is max 5v. Im using an eclipse 8053 which puts out 8volts. I havent noticed anything yet, like clipping and such and my gains are all the way down, but with the 8v's that the deck puts out is that too much and should i be looking at purchasing another amp with higher input voltage?

so am i ok going with 16v balanced outputs?
Does your amp directly accept balanced inputs, or will you be using the BLA ? Because, IIRC the voltage out of the BLA is only 10V, which to that amplifier would likely be fine. I used an 8053 with an amplifier that had a "maximum" input voltage of 1.5V with no problems.

"At worst", you'd be limited on how much of the headunit's volume range you could use. If the amplifier doesn't like the voltage you're sending it, simply establish how highly you can turn up the volume and don't go past that point. It would likely be a pretty high setting still, so it wouldn't really be that much of a problem. Also, since the amplifier would be at full output at that point, I really doubt you'd have it turned up that high much anyways since your stereo would probably be playing at an extremely high output level. If you do listen to your stereo at full blast constantly, then start saving for hearing aids //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Ok so i did some more research and i found out that the BLA only uses 16V from the deck to the BLA itself, then reduces the voltage back down to 8V from the BLA to the amp. Anyway i think its overkill. I noticed that even at low volume if i start turning the gains up it will shut-off. If i lower them all the way i can turn up the head unit and then at around 70/80 it will shut off again. Im wondering since all the amps are the same company wouldnt a voltage issue affect all the amps not 1 specific one. I would really like to remedy this. If i added a yellow top or HO alternator would this possibly fix the problem, and which would you suggest i do first.

BTW in your sig, squeak you state "These presumptions infer" Presumptions dont infer. People by way of logic, infer from propositions or statements. So if you want to be correct id change it to something like "We can then infer from these presumptions".

I told you that already //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Though I could have swore Eclipse rated the output of the BLA at 10V.

And is the output adequate prior to that volume settings? If so, then you don't have a problem.

Without knowing what amps you are speaking of, and if they are the same actual model or just same company, I can't tell you.

If they are simply made by the same company then no, it wouldn't necessarily affect them all the same. It depends on how the specific amplifier was designed, and not all amps by the same company are designed identically, even if they are from the same model line.

If the amps are shutting down due to overloading the input stage, then nothing can help you other than not turning the volume up that loud.

Shortcuts must be taken when dealing with a finite amount of allowed characters, my dear sir //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Well i made a few changes i re-did my big 3 upgrade with 1/0 wiring and then took the RCAS's in my bridged 4ch and split them with 2 y-splitters so all 4ch have RCA going into them. I talked to a eclipse tech and he said even though its on the 4ch switch the speaker inputs are in bridged mode so im still getting 200W per channel. I mainly did it because i had no balance control over the front components before, and now i do. I have noticed the same problem still occours but its at a much louder volume, now i dont even have to go past 66/80 and its perfect.

The radio for some reason gets extremely loud and NEVER shuts off the fronts only happens with cd's but now it only happens at ear shattering levels. So all in all id say problem fixed.
