Input on box build

Okay simply put I am building a box for a 15" woofer, Ill be putting around 600 rms into the thing, and yes it will be ported.

My questions is about the sizing, manufacturers spec says between 3-5 cubic ft. which is a big difference. I have the room for 5 ft but was just wondering what advantages you will get with building a box that has 5 cubic ft over a box with 3 cubic ft.

Is the 5 ft box gonna be hitting lower notes than a 3 ft box, what advantages/disadvantages come with the box sizing?

Thank You for reading :)

bigger box will be more effecient and peak harder and closer to your actual tuning. What vehicle is this going in and what is the sub in question. Also what kind of output/SQ goals you looking for? Your going to need room to fit the port too. With a single 15 usually a 5 cube gross box will only be about 4 net once you fit a proper port into it.

I understand all the dimensions and stuff this is not my first box build, but thanks.

I also have one other question in hand, actually two. I was wondering what the difference would be in a box that is more square compared to a box that is built more rectangular i.e a square box being 5x5x5, and a rectangular box being 10x5x10. I know its not the same but u get the point. Second question is basically the same but considering the ports. Example would be having a port width of 3 inches and a length of say 30", compared to a port with width 1.5" and a length of 20" (and lets say they add up to the same frequency).

I bet this guy /\/\/\/\ would design you a good box

Lol... You know nothing and are trying to say you understand what you're doing.

Just act ignorant (because you are) and get your questions answered.

How does what you just said have anything to do with this post or this forum in that matter...

Thanks for nothing

I think the smaller port opening can cause port noise. The exit speed of the air can be very fast with a smaller port opening, even though you can tune to the same freq as a larger port area. I have a 4cubes net box tuned to 28 and 56sq in of port area and can still hear some noise coming from the port on 20hz test tones.

I don't think the dimensions of the box matters as long as you have enough clearance behind the sub motor.

What 15 you puttin in there?

I was thinking of putting a Kicker CVX (15") or the Type R (15"), not looking to spend more than around 250 on a 15" sub.

And how much space do you generally want to have behind the driver?

Also is there an advantage in having a straight port, compared to a bent one? The box that I built for my 12" has to bend around the back wall to insure the proper length. Would it be more advantageous to have the port start at the back wall (which is longer and could allow for the whole length of the port). And with that being said how much room should you allow for the start of the port and the next closest wall?

I hope this makes sense, it may be a little convoluted.

Thanks

I'll make this easy on you, start a sub thread and figure out what sub you want, and then let me design one for you.
Well in that case it will be the 15" Kicker CVX, I have a 650 rms amp that will power it.

Anything else you need to know?
