****ing amp problems

so today i just got in my new bxi2006d. i run some 1/0 to replace my 4 ga. hook up everything, amp turns on, but not moving the sub. When you plug in the bass knob though the sub thumps, then stops, then when u pull it b ack out it makes a thump noise again. I have the gain up a tad..didn't help either. why isnt it working?
