So far they've taken what I've dished out to them quite well. I know they don't like being over powered, but they take slightly less than RMS (~320Wrms) in a huge enclosure with class. And as for sounding mellow, the passanger seat is empty buddy... While they aren't the best subs, they are not bad subs at all.The new 2005 Kenwood Excelon 13's sound sweet and pound nicely. Their rated at 300 watts rms, 1200 watt peak and come with dual 2ohm voice coils. My experience with the Infinity subwoofers has given me the opinion that they are not not very tolerant of abuse and sound too mellow.
You should be able to pick one up for 299.00, if the dealer gives you any guff, just tell him you'll go somewhere else with your money and buy a 299.00 Alpine type R.
You can get a Type R for about half that price...The new 2005 Kenwood Excelon 13's sound sweet and pound nicely. Same thing hapened here. THey are great subs for the price. That's it, really. They work best in large groups... 4 ported 10's pound quite nice on 150 rms apiece. i fed my a "dirty" 350 watts and it tore one of the two I own apart. As for the Infinity's, I owned a pair of 12.1's in a 3 cuft sealed box with 800 watts rms clean power into them and I thought they sounded too mellow ( IMO ) also the glue holding the spider to the coil on one of the subs broke apart with very little effort most likely due to the cold weather, this left me with a poor impression of them. Im not saying that there bad, im just saying they didnt leave a good impression with me.
Considering you can get a used one off eBay for $20-40, they're hard to beat. I had a 1030w, and it did everything I wanted it to do. A friend has a 1230w and it's about the same, just goes lower and a smidge louder. What does everyone think of the infinity 1230w subs?
