Infinity Reference...

Okay, so here's the story. A few months back I purchased some Infinity Reference subs from crutchfield. Right now they are in the back of my '01 Grand Am. The box they are in is a cheesy sealed half inch plywood piece of garbage. The SQ is bad, the SPL isn't exceptional. I listen to mainly rap since it has the bumps. I'm looking to go bandpass since that's best for rap...will I get decent SPL with my references? Eventually I may upgrade, but right now I'm just looking to keep my References and get a cheap bandpass box from ebay. An hour drive away there's a store that does car audio and they build boxes, but it would probably be quite a bit more expensive and I'm not too sure they can do bandpass.

So basically...Ebay box, or visit that place, and how will it sound with my references?

Specs : 300W RMS/1200w peak , 20hz-800HZ , 92db sensitivity , 4ohm.

I would never do bandpass. If I understand correctly, bandpass was used more when crossovers were not as widely used, subsonic filters, etc. Bandpass usually sounds like junk, especially if you have just a generic box. Bandpass also requires a huge box.

YOu would be best to go with ported, 2 cubic ft per sub ported at about 33hz. You could build your own if you research on here, or have someone here build you a box. Just stay the heck away from bandpass.

Thanks for the help. I am probably going to go with a ported design then. There is a shop around here that can do it. Also, I am talking to a member of another website about building one. Something I was curious about was the carpet on the outside. Is it required, or can I get a sexy painted design, assuming that the box sounds good?

That's not true. It's usually pre-fab bandpass enclosures that sound like ***.

4 cubic foot box 4 x 12.25 inch port for each sub. that should do

Any good trusted sites that design boxes? I've considered going with ECC/JD from CAF.com...
