Hey, I'm new here and need some help on ideas. I have an 1997 S-cab F150. Right now I've got an Infinity Kappa 12.1 in a ported box I bought from Best Buy in my back seat hooked up to a Profile AP1000M amp. It's nice and loud but doesn't sound good and I want to build a new box to get better quality. I am debating on whether or not buying another sub and running two twelves in a non ported box or what. Any help would be much appreciated.

If SQ is what your looking for, go with a 1.0cuft. sealed, with 1" of poly on on all sides for the one 12".

Thanks, I figured that's what it was, but I was young and stupid when i bought it, and I was too impatient to build one so I just bought it.

Well hopefully it wasn't to much money...

But I mean that sub should sound just fine in a good ported box, or sealed box.

it wasn't cheap, made me mad.

on some notes it sounds kind of funny, that's why I wanted to do a sealed box, and maybe another sub.

I have had the same sub running off of a AP600 bridged at 310w RMS. It has sounded great and lasted a long time. I just recently got a AP1000 to bridge and run a few more watts to it. I have it in about a 1.0 cubic foot sealed box. You shouldn't regret just buying a new box.

It must be the box because I had 4 of them I they had great SQ. Like D Rock said try for 1.0 CF box and preferably sealed see if that works.

Would 15x15x9 work for us? I'm guessing I should use 1/2" MDF for my box. I've never built a box, is that what I should use to make it? Any other things I should do?

YOu are running enough power to this thing that 3/4" MDF would be great. I usually use 5/8", but I don't run much for power. And you are going to want 1cu.ft per speaker, so 2cu.ft in total, if you buy a second speaker.

I don't have money for a second sub yet because I'll get a bigger amp if I do. It will be a couple months before then so I figured I'd build a new box for now and then build a new one if I get another amp. Anything besides MDF and the connectors that I need?

I redid the math and 15.5*17*10.5 sound right

Do I need to have 1 cu ft of total space or do I need more to make up for the space the magnet and everything takes up?
