Inches of Port?

Ive been reading around and wondering wut inches of port means. I no it means inches of port but in more detail. Does it go along with tuning.

EXE more inches of port the higher tuning freq? Or is it something completly diff from tuning freq. Thnx for your help Mark.

that given square inches of port, the longer the length of the port, the lower the tuning, the shorter, the higher the tuning.

The more port area you have the longer the port will have to be, the upside is that you are lowering chances of port noise.

The less port area the shorter the port will have to be, but you get noise when doing so.

A good rule of thumb is 12-15 sq.in. of port area for every cu.ft. your box is.

higher tuning= wider port/shorter port length

lower tuning=

narrower port width / longer port length

I have 198.5 SQ in of port on my box. i dont get too much excursion though, which is also good for the subs (as far as mechanical power handiling)
