Improving Q-Form Kickpanels

my sig says it all:(. I loved that car she was loud, drove nicely and was sound deadened like no buddies business lol. Sadly the car dies last sept. with 210k miles on it, not bad for a jimmy with no major engine work ever done.

why go through all this work in redoing q-logic kicks, when you can basically just build them?

because i got them as a gift and ive had them too long to even consier returning em.....plus since ive never glassed b4 i figure they might be helpful......that way i have somewhat of a guide on the shape and whatnot......might as well give em some use instead of lettin em go to waste

so u used fiberglass to seal ur kicks bumpin?.....and did u put a couple coats on the inside as well for strength?.....do u think the improvement in sound was worth it?

I used about 2-3 layers to strengthen it, still had almost no midbass output because it wasn't sealed up on the backside. I also hope you're using something smaller than 6.5", really hard to get anything bigger than that to fit in there.

Like said, tape up the area where the q-forms will go, add a couple layers of fiberglass, and glass that mold to the q-forms.

i'm using a 5.25" component set.........

but i was reading some glassing tutorials and they say that fiberglass doesnt stick to plastic.......how do i get the glass to stick to my q-forms then??

Cool, a 5.25" set should work perfectly. When I glassed the plastic, it surprisingly stuck well. Prep the area by sanding it and getting it rough, and then apply the fiberglass. I know there are some adhesion promoters out there, but I'm not sure what they're called exactly. I didn't need an adhesion promoter, but that's just my experience.

alright.....thanx for the help

where in cali u located??

My midbass went from sounding semi hollow and punchy to quit *** rocking lol. When i dropped my XXX's in and took out the Vifa's it sounded like i had a pair of 8"s up front:D. The problem with that is the tweeter's kept popping out of their hole lol. When I did mine I actually attached the glass from the back around to the front as I knew it wouldn't stick to plastic well. I wrapped it all the way around to try and make it as strong as possible that way. It worked well i must say.

Could always drill some small holes in the plastic around the edges to give the resin something to grab hold of. Most of the one's I use to doctor, I would make sure they bolted tight, and flush to the floor. Once that was accomplished, I went to town with the modeling clay on the inside. My kicks I made sound better venting into the carpet than they do sealed up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
