IMHO GOD > Evolution

again that thinking says "if i believe it's right to murder babies" then it is...there must be a higher power or morals wouldn't exist
No...people have morals because that is what they have learned to be right and wrong. Society has pressed "morals" on to people.

Saying there must be a higher power or morals wouldn't exist...is a really bad argument for there being a higher power.

Also...saying that God has existed "eternally" is just as stupid as the big bang. Both came from nothing. And to say one existed eternally is just avoiding it. Who created God? You can't use the "nothing from something" argument...and then completely contradict yourself by saying God existed "eternally."

What if people were so afraid of death, they created religion. This way, when they died they had something to look forward too. (not saying i believe this, but someone said it to me today coincidentally)

and little on top of that there doesn't "have to be a higher being" for morals to exist, just the belief and faith that there is one.
this, i can't argue with, because almost EVERY civilization in history has had religion and they quite frankly can't ALL be right... but where do these religions come from? they can be traced back to the first accounts ever known to man... so isn't it more likely that all the religions of the world are derivitives and variaties of the first religion?

and on top of that why would man creat a religion with no purpose...

lemme explain better...

imagine one of the first men who exists before religion had started... and he comes to the realization that there is no sence in morals because there's no god "to him" so he decides to invent religion to keep men in check... but then again after he came to that realization wouldn't he have more likely gone cliff diving since his life had no meaning?

just a qucik thought. people don't follow rules because they are based on higher being. this country was founded by evangelical cristians with christian beliefs. people follow the rules because of societal sanctions. do you really think that if there were no lwas people would still live in relative peace?? but of course if the laws were there and noone was punished for breaking the laws people still wouldn't follow the laws. societal sanctions right there.
oh and just me i'm also atheitst, and being as how we are all organisms when we dies that's it. no more no less. we won't even know we're dead because all brain function will stop.
wrong... this country was founded by "FREE MASONS". who do you think created law? man? wrong again. like i said before, we "ALL" serve a purpose. each and everyone of us. those judges that sit on that stand, police that patrol our streets, and politicians that amend to the constitution were placed there by the divine order.

i know it's fun as hell to go against the grain, hell i love to argue. but, lets face reality... keep it real. god is real

i'd say you guys vote cotjones in for President of the US.....

isn't that where you stick most moralistic religious morons in your country????

I am agnostic....for the record.
I try to explore all the religions. Of course many say..."If you don't chose mine, you'll go to hell forever". I hate that about religion...you are not afforded the opportunity to seek knoweldge without such dire consequences. I would hate to be at the Pearly Gates and Peter say, "Well Josh, you have been a devout servant of God for 80 years, spread the good word, etc, etc. But I am sorry to tell you that you are going to Hell because when you where 21, you considered atheism, and when you where 23, you examined other religions. Sorry, but rules are rules."

If I could talk to God, that is one thing I would ask him. Why grant me free will and a thirst for knowledge if I am not allowed to use it. Does not he say to let your talents shine?
you are using it! you are questioning! i believe you are RIGHT in that... i believe the one's who say "there is no god, end of story... are the ones in trouble" they aren't searching for the truth, they are content with being completely ignorant to it.

Morals are an invention of main stream society.
Actually, they're not.

"Morals" as perceived by some people as the norm for the society may be.

But my morals are personal, and to which I live by and believe in, they were not created by society, referenced, possibly, but not solely created by.

Edit: The meaning of morals, was yes - created by society, as was the name. But something that people live by and believe in aren't created by society in all cases, and definitley not in mine.

no god is the answer to something coming from nothing...

we live in time, where one event occurs because an event preceded it...

but the bible gives the only logical answer to the question, "how did something come from nothing"

it wasn't nothing it was god existing outside of time allows for the absence of causation (basically if god did not exist, then the universe couldn't possibly exist)

who created god? no one, he exists because he must exist... "matrix, haha" , the one concept that a human in the bounds of time will never be able to fully understand

Maybe not main stream society persay. And yes you created your own, but morals are all in interpretation and learning from how you were raised and taught. Instead of parents teachers family, and words such as that...the word is society. Because they are all a part of society.

Yes, but they were not created by the people that influenced them.

Influenced, I agree, but - I have my own mind, own way of thinking, and own moral basis to which I make my life decisions accordingly.
