A guy posted yesterday about his tinsel leads falling apart after 2 weeks on his Mag. Not the type of "wear" I'd like to see on a $450 speaker after 2 weeks.

squeak9798, 02parkave, do you two have any insight on my choices, which one would you go with? I do remember lilmaniac pretty strongly opposed to TC in another thread for whatever - not saying you don't know what you are talking about by any means lilmaniac, just that I'd like unbiased opinions if possible.

I've read some pretty incredible things about the LMS-5400 so I would rather not just dismiss it out of hand unless it is agreed the Mags will be better.

Try the ported box first.

I recognize that this may give me some of the volume I am looking for but I have serious doubts it will improve the SQ. I will try it but like I said earlier, I don't see it being a long term solution.

Id go 5400, that subwoofer is nothing short of amazing IMO.

you're an idiot. show me where he says the tinsel leads were falling apart. You're an idiot, Mags aren't new subs, they've been out for a couple years and one guy said his tinsels look like they're wearing out. you're an idiot, and everyone told him theres not a problem don't worry about it. I do agree on the 3000, not the most accurate subwoofer TC makes but the thing is still a monster.

lilmaniac is a tc hater, im a tc user (or as some on here say "sac-rider) i use the 5200's... amazing subs. i would go with the 5200's unless you have the big box, and tons of power for the 5400... if you go with tc drivers (as i would recommend) never was impressed with the 3 mag installs ive heard.

Sealed box doesn't automatically equal sound quality, and ported box doesn't automatically equal soundpressure;

A good portion of the most coveted and highly-priced sq loudspeaker cabinets in the world utilize ported designs.

last time i heard if you want lows, the 5400 will destroy the 5200 when low-end come in discussion...

iirc dalucifer had one in a sealed box, you could pm him.

idk about si, never heard/used them...

IMO, 5400 18" is for you.

I would agree with Cybe to try a new enclosure before you go spending $$ on a new subwoofer, especially since none of those options are particularly cheap.

I would personally go with the 15" 06 XXX. I havent heard any problems about them as you stated.........
