I'm about to invest over $400 in subs/amp/box. Will I be pleased?

Alright, I know some of you guys spend more than that on just one sub, but I'm a begginner and this is a starter system. What I want out of my system is about 75/25 SQ/SPL. Sound quality is more important to me because in my vehicle (Standard cab truck), pretty much any sub would be loud, plus since I don't have much experience with high-powered systems, what you guys may think isn't very loud jay be just fine for me.

So, that being said, my equipment:

2 RE RE 10" subs - $135

MTX Thunder342 2 channel amp(340 watts bridged to push the RE10'S) - $140

As for the box, as of right now I was going to have a local car audio shop build me a sealed box for roughly $150, unless someone here can do it for cheaper.

So those are my plans. Will I be happy with my first system? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

You could build a sealed box by yourself for way less than $150

If you have any carpentry skills at all (well actually if you have ever used a drill) and you know basic math you can build a sealed box no problem.

you should be ok. I don't know how the SQ of the RE series is seeing as I have never heard them. You could get a single atlas 12 with the same amp and you would sound excellent

really tho man if you could fit a single 12" Atlas in there you would be golden. that thing would sound amazing and only cost ~$125 or so.
x2 on all of that, I like the Atlas idea:naughty:

I have absolutely no carpentry skills, and I'm afraid if I tried doing it myself I would mess something up, so I'm going to leave it to the shop.

Aren't the Atlas's sold out? Plus, I think the mounting depth is more than I can fit behind my seat. Anything over 5.5" is not possible.

if you're not happy with that system as it is when you're done, you might want to amp the highs and mids witha small 4 channel amp, then you'll be rockin'.

re's are good baseline subs, never heard the atlas though, i've heard they are pretty darn good too, but hard to get your hands on.

If you can get someone to get you plans on a ported enclosure, you would be much happier //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Plus you could build it yourself.

Heard a pair of 8" RE's in a 5ft³ ported enclosure hooked up to a MTX 8100D. That thing rocked //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif The install was done in a older Dodge Dakota extended cab, and he had a set of Blaupunkt TSc660 ($39.99 on www.crutchfield.com) components for his highs. That system was by far one of the more amazing setups I've heard of in awhile.

If he cant fit a single Atlas in there, then I doubt a ported enclosure with any daily driving tuning selection is just not possible.

But as to making the box, $150 is just SO much money.. Contact Moe Lester (thats his user name.) I bet he will make you a sealed box for much less than that, ported enclosures normally run about $150 shipped, that much for sealed is insane...

Good point. I missed the part about him having a single cab Ford truck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif

Check out http://www.offtopic.com

There is a guy in the "yard sale" section that is selling a JBL1200.1 for $170 shipped. That would provide your subs with more than enough power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

UPDATE:

Alright, I called RE and ordered the subs yesterday. I also contacted Moe and he's building me a box the subs. All that's left now is the amp. I decided to go with the Kicker KX350.2 over that MTX amp... And I've heard it is a better choice. I can get it for less than $140 brand new off ebay. Good deal? I think so.

Also, Moe suggested this wiring kit:

I like it, and the price is nice. Comments?
