Installing a new head unit into my son’s car. He purchased the car with some audio equipment already in it.
The amp for the speakers is a Premier GM-X1034 – we have no manual. We are installing a Pioneer DEH-P8MP. The previous head unit had one set of RCA outputs that goes to the amp and plugs into channel A.
The output of the amp has eight wires that goes back to the front and connects to the radio harness to go back to the speakers. The new head unit has separate RCAs for front and rear speakers. I’m thinking that we can use one channel (A) for the front and one (B) for the back speakers. Is this correct? What I’m afraid of is if I wire it that way I may damage the head unit if I don’t have the settings correct on the amp.
Since I have no manual I’m at a loss.
The only switches I see on the amp is a 2/4 channel (set at 2 now) and separate switches for the channels the read LPF – OFF – HPF (both A&B) are set at HPF.
My first thought was to put Y-connectors to the front and rear on the new unit, but the guy on the Pioneer Help Desk said definitely don’t do that.
Any help will be appreciated.
