Illumination

I recently got an Alpine CDA - 9884. I want to hook up the illumination. I am not sure what color wire it is from the car though. I dont have a wireing harness, the wires are straight from the car into the head unit. Does anyone know what color wire is the illum in an 01 cavalier.

If I understand correctly, it will make the HU work with a knob on my dash which controls the brightness of my displays.

the illumination wire will dim the headunit lights when you turn on your headlights.
