Hooking up a KVT 815 DVD in my car. I hear your not supposed to use the stock ignition wire since it's more of a data wire than a voltage input. Where would be a good place to run an ignition wire? I know in the fuse box but is there any specific fuse any of you have used for this. I also heard you can use a wire under the seat which would be nice since thats where the brain will be. Any help is appreciated

What exactly are you trying to put? Sorry but I don't memorize model numbers.

Data wire? I don't know who told you that but i'm going to call BS, considering a "data" wire shouldn't feed your radio power....

Anyway, if it was me, I would take the ACC (usually red) wire that your Headunit feeds off of, get a 12v relay (autozone, walmart etc or partsexpress) and use that, you will have as much current as the relay can supply, which is more than enough for whatever you are using.

http://www.partsexpress.com. Type in 12v relay in the search box, they are really cheap. There is also a free wiring diagram available through them.

I am taking out the stock radio and putting in a kenwood DVD player. I was told not to use the factory ignition supply because it's a data wire that transmitted data from the radio to the cars computer. I was told I could fry my computer if I used it.

ignition does not feed power it informs the radio when it is time to turn on so data is extremely possible and true in this instance

op you need to purchase the interface for your vehicle the above website will let you know which one and you can order it or go to your local shop and pick it up. the interface will wired up and function just as a regular older model vehicle would

I already installed it with a wire harness I bought from a car radio shop. I used that data wire as my ignition wire feed just like the stock radio did. Its was a basic system (no amp just 6x9's in rear and the components in the doors). My radio stays on when i turn the key off just like the stock one did until I open my door but I did lose the chimes which is a plus to me. I just don't want to keep it hooked up like I have it if i'm going to fry something. it works good how it is.here is a pic

I know that, I was saying all it does, at least on every vehicle I've worked on, is send 12 volts to the radio to tell it to turn on when you turn the key, similar to the remote on an amp.

A lot of GM vehicles, including most pontiacs, tell you to purchase an interface module to install an aftermarket radio. When I used to install for CC they were GMOS module's and retailed for like $100. All they did, to my knowledge atleast, was preserve the chime. You should be fine.

Thanks for the info. Some of you might not of understood what I was saying but a few of you did. I did lose the chimes which i'm greatful for and on my info window I also lost the date which must have been fed off of the radio somehow. everything else in my info window works such as mileage, batt voltage, ****** fluid temp, etc
