If i lean forward, my bass is much louder, why?

Turn the sub around so if faces backwards...that's how mine is setup. I laugh when people see it facing backwards and they give me shit about me wanting to make people outside the car hear my "music".

they already are...

get a reflective shield so that the bass will bounce off that and into ur face
i tried that yesterday, but i ran into a problem with being able to see the road while driving...

I had that problem.

It turned out my butt cheeks were flapping in the breeze made by the subs.

Duct tape fixes that.

I could be missing something. I don't think the wave length has to do with it. (correct me if I am wrong. As the freq goes up, the wave length goes down). Now by your theory the higher freq would be louder at the head. But as I have seen many times in meca. At the head rest even in a wall. The lower the freq the louder it meters at the head rest (for the most part vehicle dependent, you can go TOO low) and this is even true in walls so it isn't about the wave not having enough time to develop. In my explorer 50hz was the loudest to the ear and dash/kick. but at the ear. it was loudest on the meter at 42hz. Now scientifically I can not give you an educated answer. But I do know lower meters better for the most part at the ear even in walls so I think the wave length developing doesn't come into play ::shrugs:: could be wrong though

Like I said basic acoustics. The resonance nodes are frequency, install (sub position and facing) and vehicle dependent. There will be a different node for every frequency. The wave doesn't have to "develop" it's simply a matter of the phase relation between the direct and reflected wave. Facing the sub in different directions affects this phasing by having the wave reflect at a different point in the sine period.

drag... reflective shield...... you know a windshield is that thing right? If ya dont' believe me. Next time you are listening to your system turn your head and look backwards then foward. Most cars it is a good amount louder when looking at the windshield
