IDMAX Distortion

I have an IDMAX v3 in a sealed box 1.6cub. It is run by an Xtant A6001 (700watts tested at 2ohms). When I am playing some heavy bass and I really turn it up the sub has full excusion. (the cone goes all the way out) Why is that? The sub is rated at 1000 watts. I am not giving it that much? Could it be from distorsion? The box has no air leaks. I mean it pounds, dont get me wrong.. but something doesnt seem right.

it would depend on the box. i think the v3 IDMAX is optimized for 1.3 cubic feet (vs 1.5 for v2) and your box is 1.6 cubic feet, meaning it will reach full excursion with less power than if you had the sub in a smaller box.

nothing is 'wrong'

subs reach full excursion with less than the full rated RMS power...

taht rating is usually the THERMAL limit of the coil.. basically, when will it melt...

you can make some drivers reach their xmax with only a couple hundred watts, sometimes half of RMS, all depends on teh drivers suspension...

the larger the box, the less pwoer the driver needs to reach its mechanical limits...

free air a sub for break in (infinitely large box) and it will take very little power to get it to move...

be forewarned tho, larger boxes also in turn decrease the subs power handling for this reason...

so long as you avhe things set right on your IDMAX's, you should be fine...
