Ideas for reflection?

In my 2004 Honda Pilot EX, my tweeters are placed in each corner on the dash right below the windshield. I was thinking of putting something on the glass right above the tweeters to try and soften/absorb some of the reflection from the tweeters. Any ideas on some material to help with this? Thanks for any help.

there is acoustic foam that will absorb sound but need to know the area you have

No pic, but they're in factory locations and they are about two inches in from the A-pillar right on the dash.

well I was just worried about the foam blocking the sound if they are to far into the corner. Acoustic foam isn't very thin, the stuff I have is 1.5" thick. Do you have a dash mat? You could also mount the tweeters in spheres on axis with little work, it will be much better sounding then trying to use the factory area.

No dash mat I have thought about drilling a hole through the factory grill and trying some spheres.

I will be doing spheres this time. I think they look much nicer then pods and they deff sound better.

Try a square of window film.

It wont block your vision, its thin, and its a soft plastic that likely wont hurt imaging.

Easy to remove if you dont like it too.

You may be able to find a tint so light it looks almost clear.

A soft plastic film applied to the windshield will take on much of the rigidity of the glass. IOW, it will still reflect the sound in a very similar way.

Are the tweeters up-firing into the windshield, and meant to reflect off the glass? I tend to agree with wdw, the best method would probably be to add pods (or spheres) that put you on-axis with the tweeters.

I mounted my rear tweeters on the rear deck cover and when I reinstalled it realized it was too close to the rear windshield....and thus the reflections did make it sound like azz...though reflecting for directional purposes isn't always a bad thing. I just ended up reinstalling them in a different location, I recommend the same...unless you don't want to move them.

Reflection is often a good thing for subbass, but bad for tweeters, due to the wave length difference each type of driver will be outputting. The shorter wavelengths of higher freqs make them more susceptible to interference within the confines of a vehicle's interior. Reflecting tweeters off a hard surface will often result in an erratic over all freq response.

that's right Audioholic. and in order to absorb sound the material needs to be porous and thick enough. thin films won't provide absorption. you'd need open cell foam that is close to 2" thick in order to have broadband absorption within the tweeter range.

changing tweeter aiming is easier and more effective. you'll still get reflections but they will be much lower in amplitude.

And to refine what I said earlier, not all reflections are good for subbass. I was mainly talking about a loading surface, not random reflections.

Has anyone used the headliner as an absorber for tweeters, if they were to placed on the A-pillar? How high on A-pillar is ideal height for tweeter placement....ear level?
