ID vs. JL vs. Kicker vs. Infinity

Mine is a 96 Cobra coupe. I can fit 2 10's, probably even 2 12's, I just can't afford to give up the space to do so. I am just going to use a box that will stand vertically and face either forward or rear. If I was to lay it on its back I would have a lot more options for subs, but I have ran 1 10 before, and it was more than enough bass. 1 8 should add the right amount of bass, and adding a second one is always an option. Really, I would like to stay under $300, and if all goes well that will be with paying someone for a custom box. I've always used sealed, never messed with ported, but from what I can tell people are getting excellent SQ from ported applications. Since the box size is almost the same for the JL, it is really at the top of my list right now. I have 11 inches of height (might could go 13), 19 inches wide, and 3 inches (more depending on height) top depth. I might could fit a 10, but with the airspace I don't think it would perform well. So, best option would be the JL 8? I am going to look into the other ones mentioned, such as the DD, and they will be considered. Thanks to all, and any more input is greatly appreciated.

Right now I have it planned at $300. ~$100 for the sub, ~$100 for the amp (hoping to find one used for cheaper), ~$100 for a custom box if I go ported. That, plus a wiring kit (15 bucks locally, 8 gauge kit), should be all I need. I am almost decided on the JL w3, but a few other options have crossed my mind. Would I be better off to go with something like a pair of JL w1's or MB Quart RWE202's instead of a single w3? Thanks.

Bump, come on guys, don't quit me now. Which would be better, 2 JLw1's or 1 JL w3, both 8 inch subs? Final price comes out the same, so it all depends on performance. Thanks.

I think I can get a Fosgate p400-4 amp. It will do 200 watts x 2 bridged, seems like the perfect thing to run either 2 w1's or one w3 with the option of upgrading later. Which way should I go? Thanks.

I would get a JL 8w1 or 8w7. ID is over rated for me( I have used there ID max 10" ) and then used an Alpine swx-1043d (type-x) and is better, but thats but me. Ran 2 JL 8w1 for years, and other JL's (w6,w3,w7). I just don't like any speaker with a foam surround, they deteriorate after a while. Other people might have an opinion about foam surrounds. I am no speaker engineer. Those elementals designs are junk(sorry if that offends anyone). Fi's are good. Go listen to some subs. Kicker L7 are loud, tahst it and they break apart by the coil. Infinity is ok. Hope this helps.

Noone around carries 8 inch subs. The only shop around that carries JL has a crappy sound room, stuff sounds horrible. I am down to either the single w3 or 2 w1's. I think the w3 will be it, because if I get the amp I am wanting, I will have enough power to add a second one later. Any final thoughts between the two? Thanks everyone.
