ID vs. JL vs. Kicker vs. Infinity

I'm looking for a small sub setup for my 96 mustang. I don't want anything to hit real low, just add a little bass. Right now I am planning to run a single 8. I am looking at the ID 8, the JL 8w3v3, and the Kicker CVR 8. Also, I am considering the Infinity Basslink. Which will be the best for SQ? Again, not looking for any big bass, just something small. I will get getting an amp that will power the sub at full rms, and probably putting it in a small sealed enclosure (size will match specs). Thanks for any input.

After measuring, I will be working with about .5cuft of airspace, so it looks like I am forced to stick with the 8 or possibly a shallow mount 10. Which one for my space? Thanks.

Which one do "YOU" want??I have had experience with the JL 10 and 12" w3-3-4"s.I'm sure you would be happy .A 10w3-3-2 ,[ 2 ohms since you would be only running one]. A 10w3-3 only needs .65 cu.ft. to function in a sealed box.You will need 300 rms to power 1 10w3-3.A small JL 250/1 will make that sub go crazy. In 2004-05,I heard a set-up in my friends run around[ 80's]Tercel-2 door[He is the manager of the Alpne ,JL shop that I have been buying from for almost 5 years]This little set-up still lives perfectly in that car.Thank god he kept that car with the gas as it is.He has a lifted Silverado 2004 extended-cab with everything that Alpine has ....This little set-up was a JL 250/1 amp..2 JL10w1-4 subs-vented enclosure,Alpine 9847[3 pre-outs]Alpine F250-4 channel amp...TYPE "S" speakers-co-ax--6x9's in rear, 5.25's in the doors, and last but not least,4" 'S' co-ax's in the front kick panels. That little set-up was clean-LOUD-perfectly matched -Power-wise-.Inside that little Toyota one would think that they were listening to 600 rms. Those vented w1's were as loud as some sealed systems with twice the RMS.Kicker is a good sub for cheap.I've only heard Infinity in factory installs.I t was OK.I have heard a reference series amp with about 1100 rms on some MTX's.Very nice..I saw a 10" MB quartz reverse cone shallow mount sub..129.oo sonic-electronix or Onlinecarstereo.com

Well, with the JL, I might be able to get a ported box made, which probably would help output, especially since it in only one 8. That is what I am leaning towards. Haven't looked at JL amps, but I was thinking a Kicker ZX300.1 to power the sub. Any other opinions?

I'd pick the JL W3. A sealed box would work well with it. In your original post you wanted SQ. For that reason try it out first in a small sealed enclosure as you had mentioned. You might be surprised the output that it has.

Will the W3 still have decent output? I'm mainly interested in SQ, and not interested in hitting real low, so 8 should be the woofer for me. However, I'm concerned that one 8 may not be loud enough to be heard, but it is all I can do on my budget. Thanks.
