Ice Chest Radio

Some of you have probably seen these, but for those of you who haven't, it's essentially a ice chest with speakers, and a head unit all running off a car battery. I'm going to be building one and I was just looking for some speaker suggestions. I'm thinking probably marine but I know people who have used both. My price range is around $100 per set (ebay prices). I'll be using two sets of whatever is decided. It will not be running off of an amp, so keep that in mind.

i built one a while back and sold it to one of the guys that saw me with it while tubing. used MB Quart 6.5in Marine speakers and a Clarion Marine headunit with an Optima blue top. amazed. i might do another this year.

Chyea, and ive seen people put one or two of those solar panel trickle chargers on them as well

They are pretty cheap on ebay and they have good reviews. One thing that I was thinking about is the whole speakers w/o an amp pushing them. Is it even worth it to get speakers that are like 100w when the only thing that is driving them is a head unit?

pretty much. it lasted me the whole trip down the river. it wasn't turned all the way up just enough for everyone in the group to hear it.
