I Think My GP3000 Blew..

Keep us posted.
Oh yeah you can count on that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif No progress so far. Curious as to where I can get 'lithium grease' though. I will order thermal compound from partsexpress along with the resistors, but they don't carry any lithium grease.

I am referring to the white substance between the fet and the heatsink.I believe its called lithium grease but I may be wrong.

No, from my knowledge from computers that white paste is thermal compound aka heatsink compound, and I'm sure it has other names. Lithium grease is an aerosol spray, I believe they use it between the FET's and the clips that hold it in? Sure seems like it as the FETs seemed greasy under the clips.

Anyways, I found the thermal compound from PE for $25 (ouch) and the Lithium Grease at mouser for $8 or so, whether or not I needed the grease I don't know, but I've already ordered so too late! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

It sounds like you got what you need so that was more of my point.Don't try and re-use what was there.I'm sure those will last quit a while.:)GL
Haha yeah thanks a lot for the luck wishes. Nothing more to do now until I receive the parts. Assuming all ships well should arrive by Friday. Meaning I'd tackle this on later saturday and sunday (have a job interview on saturday so time is limited then)

I'm hoping for the best. Worst comes to worst, I'm out a few bucks and I'll have to pick up a new amp. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Will keep this thread updated as progress comes along //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Yeah, it blew up on him when he replaced the parts that looked bad. He bought a SAZ-3000D refurb from me. Lucky him. They sell very quickly when they become availible!

The grease is definately NOT lithium grease... LOL! It's thermal compound. Can be had for $5-6 per tube... it IS okay to reuse what is there. Unless the amp is like 6 years or so old and the grease is really hard (like clay) only then it would need to be replaced. We replace it on everything here anyway, just part of our "doing a better repair job than everyone else" way of doing things around here. But it would be "okay" to reuse the compound that is there as long as it isn't hard like clay, as it will get after about 6 years.

Ah, never noticed you posted in here Chris.

Well yep, he's right. I replaced the FET's, blew up again. Guessing an IC chip or something else is blown. For now it's just a really expensive paper weight in my room.

The SAZ-3000D is working great, however. Was not a smooth start though, but thanks to Chris all ended up great. Thanks again Chris from dB-r!

It was definitely fun trying it, and learning what I did between playing around with the amp myself and talking to Chris about it. Well worth the money wasted on FET's and stuff for the knowledge I gained about amps and electrical components used in them. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.
