I suspect my amp is broken...

Hey I bought a boss "1800 watt" amplifier and I have it wored with 10awg wire connected to power and ground.

realistically this amp should be able to put out maybe a few hundred and I have already acurately tested my speakers and measured wmthe wattage requirment to be 400 watts at 2 ohms which translates to about 28v of output from the amp.

but when I crank the amp until distortion I am reading only about 12v which is 72 watts at 2 ohms.

And yet when I have no speaker connected it allows me to reaxh up into the 30s of volts.

does this sound like a broken amp?
