hey i just spent the last 6 hours hooking up an in-dash Kenwood DVD/Monitor.. the model is the KVT-717DVD.. when i put a DVD in, it seems to skip past any menus the DVD may have and begins playing right away.. but i can only hear the sound.. it shows no video. it's as if the dvd is a music cd instead and i can browse through the head unit's settings. i have the green Hand Brake wire grounded directly to the wiring harness's ground. I'm not sure if grounding the green wire is all I need to do to bypass the handbrake safety feature. If so, it's grounded!!! if "the handbrake was down", would the head unit display text saying that i need to have the handbrake up?? i get no message like that so i dont know if it's just because i didn't bypass it correctly or if i'm overlooking something on the HU.. someone please help as im exhausted after six hours of labor and am frustrated that i now have to deal with this, even though everything else works!!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

edit: i just found this archived thread, and the fourth post says that this HU should be able to be bypassed by simply grounding it. he's right , right???

you dvd player needs to see the parking brake on then off then on again.

i had the same issue all i did was mount a switch that was grounded to the chassis coming off of the brake sensor wire, when i want to watch a dvd all i do is toggle the switch a few times and i good to go

what model number head ubnit do you have? i did a long search on google and have found a couple threads where ppl say that all u need to do with this deck is just ground it.. they didnt say anything about it needing to hvave a sequence of some kind of on and off switch.. so is it official that you absolutely have to switch it off and on once or twice for this particular kenwood to work????

here are various links to different forums where ppl say that the kenwood just needs a simple ground.. are they all leaving out the sequence part??:

thie second person in this thread has a kvt-815dvd and they said they just simply grounded it and it worked

the last person in this thread said they grounded theirs and it worked.. although they never stated clearly that they had a kvt-717dvd, they said theirs worked as if they owned one

the fifth reply in this thread also said that alll it needs is a simple grounding. the OP is referring to a KVT-911dvd but they should have the same procedure being theyre the same series/line right?

this post has a user saying

i just installed a kenwood kvt-717 in dash dvd player and all i had to do is ground out the parking brake wire and it tricks the computer into thinking that the parking brake is on all the time, it is the same thing with the switch thing above, just a little more wiring and a extra swtich, btu some models need the swtich cause it is a pulse ground that the computer looks for and not a solid ground

MUAHAHAHHAHAHA FALSE ALARM!!!!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif :D //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

next time i'll remember to grab the actual DVD instead of popping the soundtrack in. LOL LOL it works!!!!!!!!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif mods lock this thread bye now!
