I have a tough question...

Why does ground loop isolation (or what ever the term is) cause a whine through my speakers? Does the whine become greater as the difference between the length of the amp ground and head unit ground becomes greater?

I have a 0 gauge ground wire leading from my amplifiers to the battery. Over 80% of the people that I tell this to tell me that I need to ground my amp to the chassis less than 3 feet away from the amp in order to stop the whine coming out of the speakers. But I could not find a spot on my car with a low resistance, I think my car is made out of glue and plastic //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif.

Thanks for the help.

Run a 0 gauge cable back to the negative lead on the battery. Only way to get a decent ground if your vehicle is mostly plastic...
I am already ahead of ya man. Haha. I have a run of 0 gauge from my negative lead to the back of my car then it splits into two 4 gauges for my amplifiers grounds. This is the reason why I need to know about the ground loop thingy. I need to know how I can fix my speaker whine and still have a 13 foot long ground.
