This is the first inkling of problems I've had...but somehow, I should have expected more //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I'm running WinXP Pro. A few days ago, both IE and AIM started crashing on me - I'd open them up, and a few seconds later I'd get a message that they needed to close. The message referenced a "wininet.dll" file...OK, so I go and download a new version of that file. They still hang.

Do I need to completely clean out and update the registry? If someone knows what's causing this, please give me a step-by-step instruction on how to fix it...because computers are not my thing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Thanks in advance.

i think its time for a fresh install of xp... sounds like part of your registry has been deleted by a trojan or something, and as a result, aim or ie cannot read from it.. causing your programs to crash... try uninstalling aim, delete all temporary folders and subfolders, restarting, and a fresh install of the newest version...

Don't cry over spilt milk. IE and AIM are a joke by all accounts. It's time to look into alternatives. Firefox and GAIM work wonders.

If you're deadset on keeping IE and AIM, which I do NOT recommend, you should keep up with all the latest firewall technology and antivirus updates. Both are about as secure as a locked door that's been left unlatched.

Problems like these should not be fixed, they should be erased. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Once IE gets tinkered with you can be **** sure other parts of your computer will start acting up. I reccommend formatting the machine and saving everything important on backups.

haha...did you even read what I posted...it may even work..

...it's funny when people would rather do a fresh install rather than trying to investigate a problem...

Thats true, but its kind of like a band-aid. If you are gonna go that route, be sure to get some good anti-spyware to check everything else out.

if you have a lot of crap that you don't feel like backing up, do this. boot a copy of XP and do the repair installation. this Re-installs windows, without erasing your files. that is what i would try first, and if it's a must, then resort to formatting

Be SURE to save the WPA registration info if reformatting and reinstalling. Search on google, it's really easy to do. It prevents you from having to do the online registration again, which wears out your activation code.

On a similar note, I just finished downloading Fedora Core 4 Linux at campus. Want a copy?

I have non corporate pro, I want the corporate edition though. I wish I had the bandwidth to download it.

Oh I'm sorry, were you trying to be subtle? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
