Corporate greed is the single biggest reason for this. Their unwillingness to pay a fair "liveable" wage to employees has made the unions have to fight to survive. The only reason your area and areas around the country are losing jobs is because the corporate fat cats can make more money by moving production down to southern states or out of the country all together.
And I don't know how you can say its unions faults either. Especially when you see jobs that were NON union and paying 8.00/hr are also being outsourced. So how is that the fault of the unions.
Labor unions are why us as American workers have the following:
- 40 hr work week
- weekends
- breaks
- time & 1/2 after 40 hrs.
So if you want to blame someone for all these job losses blame corporate America which will be running the country sooner than you think.
If you were a Union emplyee and you were making X amount of dollars and all the sudden management wants to cut your wage by 50% would you say "ok, I didn't need the money anyway, it was just my kid's college fund.".. HELL no you wouldn't you would fight for it.
The only people who say union workers are lazy are NON union workers who have NO rights because the Emplyer has all the rights. I'll admit there are some union workers that think just because they're union they can be lazy because the union will protect them. Well, I'm in union construction and when we have people come off like that we have what we call a "one man layoff" and call the hall for a replacement. So you see union workers aren't always lazy. We just want what is ours and are prepared to fight for what is ours. The reason you always here about us being lazy is because thats what the corporations want everyone else to think so then union workers can be used as the scapegoat for why the jobs are leaving the country.
Sorry for writing a novel.........just had to rant that out.
