If you are one of the dudes from the late 80's/early 90's of car audio like I am, you'll appreciate this find. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I decided to go to my storage unit that has been sealed up for well over ten years, closer to 15 years actually. It's a temperature controlled unit and everything I put in it was vacuum locked in airtight bags thanks to my mother buying one of those machines that does the air sealing that was so popular in the early 90's.
Man, I had all kinds of cool old stuff in there. I was digging around and had totally forgotten that I intentionally put up a new pair of TS-W252C tens for keepsake since they were one of the only things around giving Savard a good run for their money at the time. I figured if I put up a new set one day I'd open the vault and find them and be able to compare them to the changes in technology.
The last known manufacturing date for these was 1995. 14 years ago.
This is a pair of NOS IMPP tens (had them mounted all these years to a stand) with the long throw backplates. Man I was so happy to find these. Anyone around at the time can remember these subs **** near stretching out of the box they threw so far. Low notes were insane for a pair of tens.
About the only thing at that time IMO that could hang with them were the Savard Q's. Those were some bad tens. Problem was the Savard cost an arm and a leg and the IMPP tens were loud, low, and cheap to put in your trunk. The Savard also did not have near the excursion of the IMPP's.
These were some of the longest throwing tens back in the day with that large bumped back plate. they also took power down the throat like a champ. You would beat the heck out of them and they'd usually hold it.
Now that I had had a chance to pull these out and see them and compare them to what pioneer is doing these days all I can say is "I wanna go back!" Todays Pioneers are just nasty looking in comparison and they don't cut it in the sound department either. If you have Pioneer subs and like them, you need to wrap your ears around these. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Anyway, memory lane... for all you old school cats, here's a couple pics! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
