I got a FREE DC XL 15" Sub but it needs repair

Ok so I got a free dc XL 15 D2 and the motor threads were stripped from the basket! If I get the bottom retapped can I attach the basket and motor without reconing? Or even just replace the spyder? I dont know if the coil will still be aligned if I do this?

Also how much will it cost me to get the threads retapped about? I know a recone is $135, so I could prolly have a friend do it for me....

Need a recone bro. Everything has to be realigned.

Tapping can be anywhere from 25 bucks to 100 depending on where you go.

should I have the holes redrilled in between the other holes, or just have the old holes made bigger and redrill the basket?

i can fix it for you. to do propery so the threads are right is remove the top plate, drill and retap to 5/16-18. pm me i canexplain it more...

I really would like to get it done locally Im gonna call around to get prices, Unless someone can recone it for me to, $135 seems spendy to me for a recone kit from DC, but they made it sound like they would do it for free if I wanted to ship both ways, which woul dbe about $50 for me with my shipping discounts...

What should I tell the machine shop, they dont know what it is made out of, so they dont know if it can be tapped my conventional methods,

Also Im concerned If I retap it if the basket will fit the new bolts, I know I can redrill the basket, but only so much...
