I can't drive automatic...

i switched to an auto 3 years ago and i still drive with my left hand on the wheel and my right hand on the auto shifter even though i have nothing to shift
I do the exact same thing, left hand is for steering and right hand is for everything else, turn signals go on/off with the left hand as well right hand never comes near the wheel except for the occasional gear change, but that can be done with the left hand too when needed (column shifted auto.) I hunted around for 4 months for a stick version of my truck and couldn't find anything worth buying east of the Mississippi, very tempted to fly out to texas or Iowa and drive back the couple I found. Driving is too boring without a manual.

I want a manual, but my auto shifts pretty firm //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
Way quicker then any of you with a manual
For racing specially when you start to dip into the 11's and 10's an auto is definitely a must but for me I would rather be 0.5-1 second slower than my cars potention and still have a manual shifter. Also this is pretty much only for straight line racing, once you throw in some curves being able to hold a gear or engine brake becomes so much more useful.

Its a same so few cars are offered with manuals these days. Sure would be nice to get more out on the roads and I betcha $50 accidents would go waaaay down and road awareness would go way. For those of you having trouble driving a stick in heavy traffic, just leave it in 1st and roll along at 10 and let the cars in front of you run away, much better than making the 1-2 shift 500 times and smashing the brakes over and over.

I'm not a huge fan of sticks. I have short legs, and when I was learning, working the clutch felt too much like a workout. Both of the manuals I've driven had way too much pedal travel for me to be comfortable in daily driving.

I love the ability to shift when I want to instead of when the ****** tells me to though. Even having the manual mode in my new car is much more fun than a normal auto(plus it's really helpful when getting on the interstate). I'd just like to go spend a whole weekend test driving to try out all the different type of trannies they have out now: DSGs, Sequential manuals, auto-clutch manuals, whatever.

actually the other way around....auto for the fast....there is a reason why all the drag cars and track cars are automatics
f1 style transmission is different than a standard auto. The reason they use them instead of manuals now is because the shift times are so **** fast.

A standard auto is NOT for the fast

My maverick has a factory auto with a shift kit. Not f1 style, but it will slide the tires when you shift

very typical in drag racing

Lots of straight line cars will have autos in them once you start getting pretty fast, some classes don't allow autos though I believe, but you end up getting a Lenco (or similar) ****** where you just pull a lever back to engage the next gear instead of rowing through them like a normal manual. Personally I can't stand any of the "auto stick" or F-1 sequential (up/down) shifter or paddle shifters. The possibility of dropping from 5th down to 3rd or 4th to 2nd is most certainly not all that smooth with anything but a standard stick shift manual or at least you would need a clutch. Rolling along the highway at 75 or so and then jumping down into 3rd and stomping it sure is fun //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
