I may be in over my head here....not sure. So, for anyone who hasn't read the other thread, I'm helping a friend out with a few upgrades. One of the things he wants to be able to do is fine tune/tweak his setup with a DSP. Understandable. However, he does NOT want to get rid of his stock HU. It's a 2011 Kia Sorento with the "super-upgrade" Infinity system...it has navigation, GPS, wipes his a$$, etc.
According to a diagram I found online, there is a custom JBL 10 channel amp (not sure why only 10 when it supposedly has 12 speakers) which feeds all of the drivers. So, should be easy, huh? Just take the output from the HU, pump it into the DSP, and then back into the amp. No such luck. It uses some sort of digital output. The diagram says SPDIF, but it also shows three wires, a negative, positive, and ground, so not really sure how that sucker works. I read somewhere that you can get a toslink adapter for the DSP, but are they reliable and accurate in sound reproduction?
If anyone has any experience with this sort of thing, I would love some advice! Otherwise it looks like the only option, really, is to disconnect the speakers from the amp, run LOC to a DSP, DSP to a separate amp, and the power the speakers that way....which, of course, would just be silly.
Ideas?!?
