Hybrid Question

When getting a sub reconed into a hybrid, what dictates whether it will work in a sealed enclosure or not? I have a Treo CSX that was reconed with some out sourced parts, but I'm wondering how it would sound sealed without wasting wood. Its taking up too much **** space, so I was wondering if a sealed box would give me some space back, and still get loud.

Is it the motor, or the actual recone that gives a sub its specs and abilities?

Its both the motor and the softparts...

FS/QES will give you what is termed Efficiency Bandwidth Product which some people use to determine if a sub will work better sealed or ported... but since you probably don't have the T/S parameters for the sub thats not going to help you..

I'd say as a rule of thumb if the sub uses a bunch of hard spiders and has a stiff suspension it's not going to work very well in a sealed box...

You didn't get any T/S for the sub?
Why would you buy a sub without knowing basic info about it, like T/S parameters?
I bought a recone for it, but its not using the same parts, so I didn't know if it would have the same t/s specs as the original

Yeah it does, at your moms house. Its not an original CSX. The only thing that came from Treo is the motor. The site info means nothing if the parts aren't the same. Read the fukking post:p:

If the parts are different then the T/S are different, which again goes back to my question of why you would build/buy a sub if you have no idea about the resulting T/S parameters.

I did it once unintentionally though, and I got lucky. I had an Rl-p motor and couldn't get TC to recone, since they didn't exist anymore. Scott at Fi helped me recone it after I gave him the wattage I had and the alignment I was gonna use it in.

I threw it in my car IB just for the hell of it and it gets lots of praises when I demo.

I wouldn't really have hybrid subs built intentionally though. That'll almost be like gambling, as the person/company reconing probably won't have the same tastes as you... or even care about what you like.

Interesting thread... not to thread jack but can any1 post link to a description of what diff specs on subs relate to in layman terms like db sensitivity is this xmax is this etc etc....

I was at your moms house getting my cawk sucked when I wrote that.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Somebody took an odd pure SPL sub, blew it, reconed it with unknown parts to unknown specs. Probably some cheap kit.

Build what ever box you want. It will probably sound like shit no matter what you do.

Here's a tip: Buy better gear.
