What type of install will you be doing with your new front stage speakers?
I'm considering a few options, but open to opinions. So far I've thought of the following:

1) All in factory locations (pros: cheaper install, easier, can possibly do myself... Cons: tweeters bouncing sound off glass windshield = not the best)

2) Both installed in door (pros: still cheaper, but can't do myself cons: not the absolutely best placement for imaging)

3) Woofer in kicks and tweeter in door (pros: best soundtage cons: much more expensive, definitely cannot do myself, wife may kill me, wife will probably poke hole whith her high heals)

My budget for this particular stage was about $1100. A local shop will install the Clarus (both in the doors), amp, and HU for just about that amount. I've also considered just going with the Legatia's and the amp and getting a head unit in a few months....decisions, decisions...

imo.......

deaden the **** out of your doors....inner & outer panels.

use deadener to cover small holes & plexiglass for the bigger ones...to seal off the doors (expanding foam works great in spots also...corners, etc)

use an mdf ring to mount the mid in the stock location....if rooms allows angle it towards the cabin (be sure it's sealed off though)se

^^^^these steps are very important if you like midbass....no deadener & open holes = no midbass response^^^^

tweeters in the pillars....angle & on-axis/off-axis will depend on a few variables including your personal tastes & the vehicle cabin. (also, different tweeters respond in different ways)

I would be down for A-Pillar install, but mine are full of airbags. What's another location you would suggest?

Oh, I thought airbags restricted that?
Almost all pillar airbags are small. You'll just have to take the pillars off, carefully, to inspect them & see. You could probably call a BMW dealership & ask somebody in the service dept. I'm positive there will be enough room somewhere along the pillar to mount them.

If you were to crash & they deployed it would totally destroy the tweeters, then again, I don't think that would be your biggest problem at that point. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I own, and have auditioned all 4 sets of the components mentioned in this thread for a month each in my car. How is his opinion wrong ?

I used the L1s, but I've never heard the L6s. I will tell you, if you properly install the MLK mids and send at least 150w to each, they pound for midbass. For that kind of music, I don't think you'll be happy with HAT stuff, based on others I've known to run them. They seem to do better on jazz/classical/any type of instrumental music versus electronic. Are you running a processor after your factory HU?
Your doing something seriously wrong then. most of the Systems I have dealt with having legatia or clarus speakers installed have wwwwaaaayyyyyy more than enough midbass. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hey, sweet. Can you list a quick comparison of your findings with the 4 comps you ran? Also, What did you do with your install? I assume you went the Legatia or Clarus route?

You have any in-car measurements with an RTA to back this up?
