husqvarna vs stihl

The main reason we have to service these saws at my workplace is that they are run with the wrong mixture(accidentally:eyebrow:), or that old gas was left in them for over 3 months. It gums up the carbs. If you don't use it often, add stabil, run it for 30 seconds, dump the gas, then run it dry, EVERYTIME you think you won't use it for three months. If you do happen to forget, you can't really reverse time so just dump your old gas, add fresh, and it SHOULD start EVENTUALLY. But good luck if you go over a year...

Anybody here have any experience with both husqvarna and stilh chainsaws? Currently were using a commercial sized husky with a 24" bar, I know its an xp but im not sure on the size it might be a 576(before they were bought out) and a small stihl. Now were thinking about getting another commercial sized saw. What I want to know is, does anyone have experience with husqvarna's new commercial sized saws and some of stihl's equivalents? Thanks
Ok dude. So I talked to my brother. He knows both brand names. He said they are like comparing matco and snap on. They are both great saws. You would be happy with either one.

Husqvarna is used a lot in the discovery channel shows american loggers, and swamp loggers.

and stihl he has seen a lot in landscaping and such. It seems like husqvarna is a higher end.

O and because im stupid and didnt read the OP I would recommend the new XP Saws. You can't go wrong with Husqvarna's XP line. Id go stihl for the tree climbing saw tho, its very light.
that is the reason my brother said he stopped using echo. It weighed too much. Stihl saws are nice and light.

I asked around before I bought my saw a couple years ago. Seemed you can meet guys who do wood all day that swear by either brand. Important thing is to get into the high end of the lineup whichever you go with. Personally I went with Husq just because that's what the guy at the local shop sold and I know if I need anything he'll hook me up.

Stihl all the way. Had mine for about 5 years now and still runs like a champ and starts right up even tho I let it sit for like 9 or 10 months sometimes. Lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif

ok, gotcha yeah, if they ever sit, they always sit empty. And also, were particular about running with the correct mix. As far as the wrong mixture goes though, I know not enough oil would eventually burn on the engine, but would too much do anything besides create more smoke?

Too much will eventually just burn off as long as its within reason.
ok, right just as long as its no so much oil that there is not enough gas in the mixture? Also, for someone who a 24" bar pretty much does almost everything, for those rare occurrences where it would be needed, would you say it would be worth it to get a longer bar? say 30"-36"? Lets say the larger bar would only get used a couple times a year, would that be worth it you think?

Correct, at some point (not sure what point that is) there would be too much oil in the gas for the unit to run correctly or at all. Just put 50.1 in either Husq. or Stihl and youll be fine. For Oil I prefer the Stihl Synthetic Oil. And deciding whether or not to get a bigger bar is up to you. What saw do you have? Make sure it will be able to handle a bigger bar. Don't get an aggressive chain or cut down the rakers too far if you're on the big side of bars for a saw as well as you greatly increase your chances of kickback (not sure if you're an experienced cutter or not, if you are you should be fine for cutting soft woods like pine).

my family has a little 12" or 14" stihl and a 18" or 20" husquavarna. The husquavarna got a lot more (heavy) use and had some problems with the bar but that was probably from neglect. The stihl has been neglected to hell and back and is probably 10 years old. It has never had an issue and starts in a couple pulls even after sitting for a year with old gas.

We always used the cheapo oil from lowes, if you want some high quality stuff go to a powersports store and grab some oil made for dirtbikes.

For what it's worth..

yeah, I know that a bigger bar increases the risk of kickback, and right now the husqvarna is the xp 576 I think, so its a pretty big saw, its one of their commercial ones
