I want to get a good HU Double din with navigation. Here is my confusion. Ford has this Microsoft Active syc. It way to cool. So if I bye a ford with the best HU Navigation with active sync am I set? Or is there a better HU out there?

Ok my question? if you had the choice buying a new car understanding your going to replace all the speakers and add 1500 watts to the trunk would you perfer the full blown Microsoft navigation active sync factory HU or would you buy the car with the cheapest audio and replace everything.

Thanks Biker

Depends on the OEM itself. Have you done any research on the internals? Are you just adding subs or replacing everything? Way too many people are ready to jump the gun and replace their OEM HUs without weighing the possibility that it can be as good as most common aftermarkets.

I guess nowadays it's common place to assume OEM HUs cannot be good. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

my personal pref. would be... f**k and stock audio, ill rip it all out and do it myself. what i'm really thinking about is the car itself. i work on my own cars so the ford for me is a bad idea. pick a car that will run awhile and rip out the stereo and just do it yourself... its better that way

the problem nowadays is that often times the stereo has other car electronis integrated in to it, and it's also often integrated cosmetically into the dash area in such a way that it's very difficult to replace and make it look right.

I'm with the Don Mega.

If the OEM unit has all of the features you want, flat frequency response and acceptable distortion.......why replace it?

Do some research first. If the OEM unit isn't going to do anything funky to the frequency response and is relatively easy to integrate an aftermarket system with.........I'd leave it in and add on the rest of the aftermarket system.

Obviously the contreversy here should be the Microsoft Sync and no ones comenting on that. I can easiely buy the DD HU Navigation system, Kenwood, Alpine ETC but what do I get while I lose all the voice activated Microsoft Sync features as well as the steering wheel controls etc.

I plan on replacing all speakers with very high end components and adding a sub in the trunk, FI or something equivlent. Thats 2 or 4 Components. One or 2 Subs and amps to power both. Like 500W and 1500 Watts.

Also as long as the Factory DD Navigation doesnt have to much distortion can I add EQ's and stuff like that.

I just want to do it the best way. Also I was told you can unlock the factory system to play movies and stuff? Anyone?

Thanks Biker

If you are adding high end components then it sounds like you are going for sound quality. A clean sweep will never replace a good head unit. My personal preference is to get the cheapest sound system and rip everything out. I don't care about Microsoft sync. That's my preference, though. Some people like to keep their stock head units for the features.

if you like the sync and want to keep it get a rockford 3sixty or similar

If it was me and the synce came with nav, id keep it for sure

my car had an ok headunit but i replaced it and lost sterring wheel controls, luckly thats easy to get back

Hey, thers no doubt for SQ it's start from scratch. But. are you guys familure with Microsoft sync? Being able to do everything with your phone and play any song , album etc by voice commands is way to cool. So theres mixed opinions but it may not be an issue as I am leaning more and more towards the Nissan Altima, If I do get the Altima I will start from scratch.

Thanks everyone
